Our core values

Cat stretching

We operate with integrity, commitment, care and compassion and will aspire to be professional, transparent and accountable always, with many years of dedicated experience in this special field of work.

We offer an holistic and integrated approach to keeping pets pain free, with individually tailored treatment plans, ongoing advice and close monitoring of cases. Acupuncture, manual and physical therapies, advice on nutrition/supplements and lifestyle management may be recommended and also (being veterinary led) the use of medications where appropriate, involving GP vets and the rest of the MDT along the way.

We specialise in long term management of complex and chronic conditions, with special interests in helping pets with complex pain related behaviours and improving mobility and quality of life in older and geriatric animals or animals with chronic pain.

Pain may be myofascial, spinal, neuropathic or arthritic, and we will specifically target our approach with understanding and experience in managing all of these types of pain.

Our flexible, mobile peripatetic service provides an integrated approach to chronic pain management and acupuncture in pets at various locations, as part of a Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). We work closely with physiotherapists, behaviourists, GP Vets and Veterinary Specialists in the West Country and beyond, with animals being referred to us from all these professionals.

Acupuncture for pets

Acupuncture has been practised for thousands of years in Eastern Cultures and has become popular more recently in the West. It involves placing fine pre-sterilised needles into certain locations on the body, in skin, muscle and fascia, to help alleviate pain and restore balance to body systems.

Acupoints are stimulated and have an affect both centrally in the nervous system, and peripherally to activate the body’s own natural pain blocking system, making it very effective for treating chronic pain. It also works by modulation of circulatory, respiratory, hormonal and immune systems to restore homeostasis.

Testimonials

What our clients say…

Thank you, Kate, for the care and dedication you have shown to Hope. Your work has truly enriched her life, and I am deeply grateful for the positive changes acupuncture has brought to us.

Your support and expertise have been invaluable, and I wholeheartedly recommend your services to other pet guardians seeking a compassionate and effective approach to their dogs health.

Kate is such a warm, kind and caring person who did additional research on my dog Rosie to give her the best care possible.

She is honest, listens and shares her thought process so you feel you know what is going on at all times.

I learnt so much about Rosie’s condition in a very short space of time.

I just wanted to extend my gratitude to Kate for all her help and support for Cali and myself for the last few years. Her willingness to take an active role in co-ordinating Cali’s care along with Amy at the Win Clinic and Kathy at Vale Vets Cali’s has been so appreciated.

I felt she was committed to helping him and he clearly enjoyed his acupuncture sessions.

What vets say…

Milestone Veterinary Centre has enjoyed working alongside Kate for many years and her acupuncture service has been and continues to be a wonderful additional service we can offer our clients to help manage a variety of conditions.

We are proud to have Kate running some of her clinics out of our branch surgery in Kenton and have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand many success stories in the pets we refer for treatment improving, chronic pian, mobility and quality of life.

We have been referring cases to Kate from Vets4Pets Newton Abbot since we opened our surgery doors.

As a compliment to our post op orthopaedic patients or as an essential part in the management of the more complex locomotor patients, neither we nor our clients could be happier with service and results we get with Kate’s help.

Highly recommended.

At Whiskers Vets, we are proud to work with Kate Rew, whose acupuncture services are consistently outstanding.

Kate is always professional, prompt, and an excellent communicator, keeping us well-informed throughout the referral process.

Our clients respect and appreciate her compassionate care, and her ability to combine veterinary expertise with acupuncture truly sets her apart.
